Top 3 Movie Plot Twists No One Saw Coming


With thousands of films out there, and only so many hours of the day, how can you choose the most engaging ones to watch? This list showcases our five favorite movie plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat and guessing until the end. Check out our list and then tell us your favorites!

1. Shawshank Redemption

In this film based off the work by Stephen King, it shows the main character, Andy Dufresne, sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife and the man she was having an affair with, even though he adamantly proclaimed his innocence. The film follows the process as Dufresne learns to accept his place in Shawshank Prison, befriending the con man Red, and earning the trust of the warden.

The plot twist is how he uses the tiny rock hammer to make chess pieces to create a tunnel large enough to escape in through the wall with diligence and patience.

2. The Green Mile

Another film on this list that is based off a Stephen King work, The Green Mile follows the life of prison guard Paul Edgecomb who watches over the inmates at a Louisiana death row prison. One day, a large black man named John Coffey is brought to the prison for murder, but after several interactions with him, Edgecomb and the rest of the guards realize that there is more to him than meets the eye.

The plot twist is when John Coffey uses his powers to show Paul Edgecomb that another inmate on death row is the one who murdered the two girls, and that John is innocent.  

3. Saw 1

Two men find themselves locked on opposite sides of a bathroom, with a dead body between them, as the latest victims of a "game" devised by the Jigsaw Killer. Instructed to kill the other or face consequences, both race against time to save themselves or their loved ones.

The plot twist is that the dead body isn't really dead, the killer was in the room with them the whole time.
